Details

Updating this prized California bungalow presented a rewarding challenge as we aimed to balance historical charm with modern functionality, satisfying our clients’ desire for a seamless integration with their stunning garden and pool.

Our team meticulously deconstructed the old extension, preserving the sub-floor and basement, before constructing a new living area designed to maximise northern light. The open-plan space, centred around a kitchen perfect for gatherings, flows effortlessly onto an outdoor deck enhanced by a pergola that offers seasonal shade and sun. The bold new charcoal exterior creates a striking contrast with the original white house, highlighting the architectural evolution. Inside, we carefully reinstated period details in the original rooms while introducing modern touches like varied wall colours and extended oak flooring. Upgrades in insulation, airtightness, and the installation of a substantial solar PV system not only enhanced energy efficiency but also reduced long-term operational costs.

This project exemplifies our commitment to seamlessly integrating distinct architectural elements, resulting in a bright, expansive and sustainable living space that perfectly meets our clients’ needs.
